11 members of the Ken-Bu-Kan Sport Karate team took part in the 16th European Championships in Greece. The KBK squad who were part of a strong 40 athletes from the WIKF England National squad, took nearly half of England’s total tally of medals and over half of England’s Gold after returning with an impressive five new European Champions!!!
Some of Ken-Bu-Kan’s performances across the competition were phenomenal with athletes coming to top form at just the right time in the season. A special well done to all the debutants in Greece, Dan Farrelly, Danielle Kirby, Charlie Coulson and Brandon Wilkins who were all competing for the first time abroad and all came back with at least one European medal. Well done to everyone!!!

These results mean that the Ken-Bu-Kan squad have won an impressive 26 European titles and 12 World titles since 2004. The overall medal count in Europeans and World Championships now stands at a staggering 118, which is incredible for such a small Karate squad!!!! All credit to the athletes, parents and supporters.
WIKF England Coach Sensei Andy, found on himself on the podium 2 more times during the championships as England finished 3rdoverall in the Kata events and 2nd in Kumite, losing to the host Nation Greece. This was an incredible coaching results, competing against a very good Greek squad with a massive 156 athletes and with dozens of All styles National team members with many World and European Champions.
