English National Championships 2012 - 6 Athletes - 7 Medals

Post date: May 27, 2012 8:39:46 PM

Six members of Ken-Bu-Kan’s elite Karate team were part of a strong 30 member WIKF England squad, who travelled to Sheffield to compete at the English premier Karate event of the year, the English National Championships.  Once again, the Ken-Bu-Kan athletes did not disappoint and proved their ranking positions in England by reaching 5 finals of the 12 categories entered.  Although the “All Stars” athletes were in awesome form again reaching finals in all their categories, it was the turn of the “Young Guns” to shine this year.

Nikkisha Bailey was outstanding in her events, winning both the individual Kumite title and also powered the team to Gold medal, winning the deciding bout.  Nikkisha’s points came from all areas, scoring Jodan and chudan kicks, attacking and defensive punches and looked in a league of her own.  This now takes her tally of English National titles to 4, and now looks ready to enter the cadet section of her career.  Dan Farrelly, as always, was impressive in the team event, winning his first and second round bouts 5-0 to reach quarter finals.  In the next round Dan scored a perfectly timed sweeping technique to secure a semi-final place. Unfortunately, the team did not make the finals this year, but Dan secured yet another English Bronze medal.  Congratulations to all the medallists:
