How to join us?

There is no membership or annual charges involved in joining our school and no pressure to continue attending after the introductory period of 4 sessions. All we ask is for new starters to try and attend the full 4 sessions in order to get the most out of the introductory period.

To enrol...

Enrolling at the Ken-Bu-Kan School is simple, quick and inexpensive. Just need to turn up to any of our schools 10 minutes before the session begins and see one of the Instructors present. You will be given an Enrolment form to complete, which covers the introductory period and the enrolment fee will need to be paid at the first session. Loose clothing should be worn and all jewellery should be taken off.

The first 4 sessions...

During the first 4 sessions, new starters will be shown basic punches, kicks, blocks and fighting. Questions may be asked at any point during our classes and new starters are encouraged to query anything they do not understand. New starters will only train for part of the sessions to begin with, until they are comfortable with the new movements and muscles being used.

Continuing at our school...

After the introductory period, students will need to purchase the following items, which are all ordered through the school:

1) Students will need to apply for an official WIKF passport, which is recognised in over 58 countries World Wide. This passport is renewed annually and is your insurance whilst training and competing. It also forms part of training record and is essential for grading and changing belts.

2) Students will be measured for a Karate GI, which comes with a badge and a beginners white belt.

3) Protective hand mitts and gum shields are essential for fighting training and entering competitions.

4) Grading syllabus books are essential for training at home and aiding the progression of students.

Further items such as shin guards, chest protectors, groin guards, focus pads, grading materials, tracksuits and t-shirts can be purchased at any time.

Learning Karate is suitable for all ages and ability, and most new starters who begin with us decide to continue beyond the introductory period. Those who do continue will quickly develop valuable skills that could be used in all aspects of life. Children will become stronger, more alert, energised and co-ordinated while adults will become fitter, increase flexibility, more confident and develop stamina.

Entering competitions is the students own choice and those who wish to join our squad will be trained by some of thebest coaches in the UK and the World. Ken-Bu-Kan and WIKF England coaches include current and former National, European and World Champions.
