13 members of Ken-Bu-Kan’s Sport Karate team were part of a strong 27 member National WIKF England squad, who travelled to the London ExCel to compete at the Seni Open Championships.  The squad were in awesome form winning reaching 9 finals of the 16 categories entered and winning 6 of them.  The squad finished the day with 6 Golds, 3 Silvers and 3 Bronze medals.

Gavin Bailey (Current Senior England National Team Member and WIKF World Champion) was a double Gold medallist and impressed the audience by winning the lightweight senior male division, beating a former World middleweight Champion in the semi final.  Gavin then followed up by winning the Champions Cup event, which was a Prize winning event for the first time.  Gavin scored with an array of techniques including a jumping Uramawashigeri Jodan.

Jerome Brown (Current Junior England National Team Member) was also in impressive form, roaring his way to 2 Gold medals.  Firstly Jerome overpowered all his competitors in the boys 15-18 years Open division.  Then at just 17 years of age, Jerome also entered the senior male heavyweight division and took the Gold medal, beating a former England International heavy weight in the final in impressive style.

Nikkisha Bailey (Current Junior National Team Member) continued her fine form, winning yet another title in the girls over 5’3 division.  This result means Nikkisha has reached 8 finals in 8 competitions, losing just one.  An impressive statistic!!!

Aneesha Pancha (Current World and European WIKF Champion) took Bronze in Female lightweight event and then doubled up to take Silver in the heavyweight division.

Jay Kirton (Formal All Styles European Bronze Medallist) was the lightest in his senior male division but showed true strength and speed to take Bronze medal, scoring multiple kicking techniques from all angles.

Dan Farrelly (Current English All Styles Bronze medallist) was slow to get moving in his event, but did well to through to the quarter finals.  Dan’s immense power was clear having knocked down 2 opponents with perfectly timed gyakazukis.

Finally, it was time for the young guns to impress.  Cillian Gallagher Rodgers took Bronze medal is his first ever competition and then doubled up in the team event to reach the final.  Not bad for a first ever competition, a Silver and Bronze medal!!!

Martin Cooke also medalled in his first ever team event taking Bronze medal.  Well done Martin!

Finally, Michael Cox was also competing after a 5 year break and just missed out on the Bronze medal.

It was fantastic day of competition for the KBK squad, taking nearly half of the total medals claimed by the WIKF National team – Impressive!
